So, you've decided that you want to live close to where the action is in Mississauga. Living in a more densely populated area automatically eliminates detached homes from the menu, since the property values are too high for there to be any left. For a detached home, you'd have to talk to a Richmond Hill real estate agent rather than a downtown Mississauga agent. Which leaves you with two choices if you want to own property: condo or townhouse? Both have their advantages and disadvantages. We'll outline them for you.
Condo Pros
Condos are basically apartments you can own, so the advantage of buying a property from the Toronto condo listings is that you only have to maintain your unit, not the entire building. Condo complexes usually have communal features you can share in as well, giving you access to things like a private gym, pool, rooftop garden, parking garage, or concierge that you wouldn't have been able to afford on your own.
Condo Cons
The disadvantage to owning a condo is that in addition to the outright price you will pay to purchase the unit, you will also be expected to pay $100+ in condo fees. These fees are for building maintenance and condo association dues and you can't get around them. You'll also have to put your condo on a Punta Mita condo rentals site or sell it if you want to leave for a time, whereas if it was an apartment you could just stop your lease.
Townhouse Pros
Townhouses offer almost all of the comforts of living in a detached home but in areas where the land values are too high to build detached homes. When you buy a townhouse you own the whole building, and may even have a small yard, for a fraction of the price of Toronto Beaches homes for sale. You can get your own garage, store things in your own attic, and do with the interior and exterior whatever you please.
Townhouse Cons
The major drawback to owning a townhouse is that your home is attached to your nearest neighbor's homes. When it comes time to make them into power of sale properties in Brampton the new neighbors might do something that affects you, such as play music you can hear through the wall, or worse, light a fire that would leap easily over to your property. Your lot will also likely be quite tiny.
