Mississauga may be one of the cities included in the stretch known as the Greater Toronto Area, but it is also a thriving community all of its own. There are many reasons to buy a house here whether you're planning to commute instead of living in condos in Toronto or you're attendeding school in the city. But, is this the right community for you? How does it compare to the many other cities within the GTA. Here is a short outline of some of Mississauga's biggest advantages and how it compares to its neighbors.

Mississauga is on the western side of Toronto and borders with the borough of Etobicoke real estate. Within this community's borders are the University of Toronto at Mississauga campus, the Square One Shopping Centre, and the Pearson International Airport. There are also several national and international headquarters that call Mississauga home. Those living in Mississauga range from lower income families, to those buying their first home, to some of the richest families in the GTA.

Homes in Mississauga range in price from about $200,000 for a condo in the north end to $4.5 million for a mansion along Lake Ontario. Like with Ajax or Brampton townhouses many of the homes designed for young commuters are along the major highways while larger family homes are in the less populated sections of the city. The average cost of a home in downtown Toronto is currently $415,000, but those looking for real estate should remember that the average square footage in Toronto is much lower than that of Mississauga.

Two communities very similar to Mississauga are Burlington to the west and Brampton to the north. Burlington has a rich history is along the beautiful Niagara Escarpment. Brampton is known as a rising community with a relatively low median age. It is one of the hot spots for new homeowners who can't afford to or choose not to live in downtown Toronto. It's very possible to find 3-4 bedroom Brampton homes for sale in inner parts of the city for around $400,000. Homes by the water are closer to the $600,000 range. Brampton is cheaper with homes in the $350,000 range and newer condos go for around $200,000.

Another popular city around Toronto is Markham on the northern side. It is very similar to Mississauga, as it both has a great economic and residential picture. Markham is known as having one of the largest high-tech sectors in the nation. The average home for sale in Markham is around $400,000.

Whether you're interested in a home away from the noise and excitement of the city or want a place that's an easy commute to all that Toronto has to offer, there is something for you in Mississauga. Come and check out this great city and experience what it has to offer homeowners.
