It would be remiss of you to move to Mississauga without considering your other options, and it would be remiss of us to fail to present those options to you. After all, while Mississauga is a great city, who's to say that there's no London, Ontario property out there you would like better? And what if there's a similar property to the one you're looking at, but cheaper on the other side of the province? These are questions we will attempt to answer for you as we take you on a tour of the market conditions elsewhere in Ontario. Choose a heading based on the type of real estate you're looking for.
Small House
As you know from our article on Mississauga's market conditions, a bungalow here will cost you about $355,000 on average. However, if you were to hire a real estate agent in Thornhill, one of the GTA's more expensive neighborhoods, the same house would cost you at least $600,000. The cheapest neighborhood in the GTA is Burlington at $300,000. There are only four cities or towns in the rest of Ontario that exceed this, and never by more than $50,000. They are (from least to most expensive) Kanata and Western in Ottawa, Dundas, and Ancaster. The cheapest town in which to buy a small house is Sarnia, at just under $150,000. You'd be lucky to get a condo at College Park Residences in Toronto for that.
Large House
Only a very small percentage of the population can afford large luxury residences, but even those who can want the best house they can get for the least money, just like the rest of us. Mississauga is one of the better values in the GTA for luxury homes, averaging out at $550,000. Compare that to Lawrence or Moore Park, which are both over 2 million dollars. Moving south and west of the GTA we see that Windsor homes for sale and properties in Kitchener are a much better value - only about $485,000. The most expensive non GTA neighborhood in Ontario is Rockcliffe Park in Ottawa ($2 million) and the least is Brantford ($305,000).
Condo
Condos are the "it" residences among penny savers and luxury lovers alike. Standard Mississauga condos retail for around $218,000 while Toronto condos tend to be quite a bit more expensive. Just look at Midtown ($410,000) and the Annex ($475,000). The cheapest condo neighborhood in the GTA is Brampton at $167,000, which is about the average for condos elsewhere in Ontario as well. Prices range from $127,500 in London to $255,000 in the Western neighborhood of Ottawa. For luxury condos, add at least $80,000 to the price of a standard condo, and double it for neighborhoods in central Toronto.
